VERNAL, Utah — What began as a small group of passionate educators meeting in a Marriott conference room has now blossomed into a thriving community of more than 135 students. This week, Athenian Academy proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new Vernal campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce marking a new chapter for our school and our community.
The event brought together families, students, and local leaders for an evening filled with celebration, reflection, and excitement for the future. Superintendent Jared Ferguson shared what this milestone means to everyone who’s been part of Athenian’s journey:
“Athenian is excited to announce our new Vernal location, providing space and stability for staff and students to engage in hands-on learning and exploration,” said Ferguson. “We invite the Vernal community to visit, explore our offerings, and share in the excitement of our new space.”
A Journey of Growth and Heart
When Athenian Academy first opened in Vernal, we didn’t have a permanent home, just a shared dream of creating a school where every child could learn, grow, and belong.
- 2018–2020: We started at the Marriott Conference Room, serving just 15–30 students.
- 2020–2023: We moved to the Scout Office, growing to 60–90 students.
- 2023–2025: We found warmth and creativity in The Yellow House, with 90–120 students.
- Now, in 2025: We finally have a place to call home — Athenian Academy Vernal, serving 135+ students and counting.
Each move represented more than growth — it reflected the trust families placed in us and the passion our teachers poured into every classroom, no matter the size.
More Than a Building: Vernal Campus is a Place to Belong
The new Vernal campus isn’t just a building. It’s a space built with purpose where students can explore, families can connect, and learning extends far beyond the walls.
“Our new building matters because it allows us to grow and help support more families in our community,” shared the Vernal campus team. “It gives us a place of our own where we can host family events and provide students with as much support as possible.”
Inside, you’ll find spaces designed for collaboration and creativity:
- Monday Enrichment Days for extra support in math and language arts.
- Dedicated tutors who partner with families to help students succeed.
- Small-group sessions during EPIC Day classes, ensuring every student gets personalized attention.
A Celebration of Community
Thanks to the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, who led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Athenian was officially welcomed into the local community of schools and organizations working to make Vernal a great place to live and learn.
Following the ceremony, families toured the new building, met teachers, and shared stories about how far the school has come. The energy in the room was full of pride, not just for what Athenian has built, but for what the community has built together.
Looking Ahead
From the Marriott conference room to our brand-new campus, every step of this journey has been about people: our students, families, and staff who believed in what Athenian could become.
We’re just getting started.
